Library News

I want a faster way to submit links to Library News. Any suggestions?

Glad you asked. Use the handy-dandy Library News bookmarklet to Send to LN with one click. (Drag the link to the bookmarks bar of your browser, and when you're on a page you'd like to submit to Library News, click the bookmark.)

Adding a bookmarklet on my iPhone/iPad is tough, can you help?

Yes it is a pain and yes we can help. Follow these steps:

  1. Bookmark this page
  2. Copy the text from this text box:
  3. Edit the bookmark you just created; set the title to "Send to LN" and the link to the text you just copied.

What is Library News?

Library News is a gathering place for people to share and discuss news from the technology and library worlds.

This site looks an awful lot like Hacker News, what gives?

Hacker News was the inspiration for Library News. Hacker News is one of the great destinations for startup and tech news on teh Internets and we hope Library News can be the same for the library and tech worlds. Oh, and Library News uses the same Open Source software that's behind Hacker News.

What sorts of things should I post here?

Things that are related to libraries and technology. Post liberally.

How do I submit bug reports and feature requests?

Add your request/report to the thread here on LN

What's the connection to LibraryCloud?

No real connection. We're trying to make a place to talk about library and tech topics (broadly defined). LibraryCloud is providing the domain and the server space, but that's about it.

What determines the ranking of items on the page?

The number of up votes, minus a downgrade based on time in order to favor fresh items. (You vote something up by clicking on the triangle at the beginning of the line.)

Who runs Library News?

The Harvard Library Innovation Laboratory installed and modified the software, and hosts it (using Amazon's cloud), but we don't run the site. You are the community, so you run the site.

Is this site moderated?

Only for spam.

What do these links at the top of the news page mean?

new: All submissions sorted by time (most recent at the top of the list)

your comments: The comments you've left in discussions (only available when you're logged in)

comments: All comments sorted by time (most recent at the top of the list)

Is there an RSS feed available?

Yes. http://news.librarycloud.org/rss should be what you're looking for.
